Eyes on the Stars, Feet on the ground

Allow me share a few lessons from this episode of one of my favourite podcasts @mastersofscale

"Eyes on the Stars Feet on the Ground"
..culled from the famous quote by Teddy Roosevelt is a metaphor calling on us to aim high, and of course, work for it while realizing and staying true to our current realities.

"Do you want to play in [Madison Square Garden], or do you want to play in your backyard? If you want to play in Madison Square Garden, you better get used to the sound of boos because the only place you won’t hear boos is in your backyard.”
...self explanatory innit?

Happy Midweek with best wishes for your day ahead.

Enjoy the Company!

While the answer to the question of which is more important - the JOURNEY or the DESTINATION is fairly nuanced and not as easily answerable by the COMPANY as Arteta puts it in the video above, I personally like that response because understanding and helping to bring out the best in each other is a core component of what makes a great team, a great team.

There's a very common slang in Veteran football which says "Helep Team". More often than not, you will hear someone shout at another "Massa helep team"... which will immediately be followed either by hysterical laughter by the rest of the teammates, or angry shouts in support of the statement - depending on the general emotions of that team at that particular instance. While it more often than not is blurted out as ridicule to someone who's not giving passes or scoring goals (helping the team), it is quite a loaded statement. "Helep team" could simply mean:

  • move a little faster with the rest of the defense,
  • pass the ball more,
  • stop shouting at people, encourage someone else, etc

I use this example because what many people (veterans included) fail to understand is that "Veteran" football is, by definition, played by people who are already too old to play professional football but love the game enough to use it to stay healthy, or people who don't know football enough to play professionally... and so, if you find yourself being annoyed (catching feelings) because a fellow veteran is not "playing well", do you see the irony in that? The most common result is that your team will start arguing and with that division, naturally comes failure.

Understanding the COMPANY you're in then means, understanding each person's stregnths and weaknesses, managing your expectations and your EMOTIONS, so that at every step of the game, you're finding ways to ENJOY the COMPANY on this JOURNEY you're all in so that when you get to your DESTINATION, you can all look at yourselves and say "WE DID THIS TOGETHER"... "We helped each other get here".

This can also be directly seen in the world of business or Organisational development in how you manage the people you work with. While the tolerance level is MOST DEFINITELY not what you are forced to deal with in veteran environments, understanding the people you work with and finding ways to position and enable each other be the best we can be based on our strengths and weaknesses is definitely (or should be) a core part of your overall STRATEGY.

I will love to hear what you too think about this.

Understanding the people you work with and finding ways to position and enable each other be the best we can be based on our strengths and weaknesses is definitely (or should be) a core part of your overall STRATEGY.

Shoot for the Stars

"Shoot for the stars so that even if you miss, you'll land on the moon

...or so the quote goes

Or if u prefer listening to memeLords,

image.png

It is a statement that has been touted by many a speaker so much so that we tend to forget or underappreciate what a vital piece of life advice it is to us.

It means... Don't limit yourself—aspire to achieve greatness, even if it seems impossible or impractical.

I'd intended that the day I write about this, I will bring the fascinating story of Chris BrownMartin Braithwaite because of the ridiculous humour in the story... but this morning I watched an inspiring video about Phil Foden and so decided to go with that.

For the non-football lovers, Philip Walter Foden is a 20-year old English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Manchester City and the England national team.

...recognize that little (mascot) boy?

image.png

Source: When Phil Foden was a Manchester City mascot

His meteoric rise to Pep's and City's golden boy is just as inspiring as the skills he displays every time City gets onto our screens. Phil came from a family of football lovers of course. However, unlike the rest of the family who were Manchester United Fans, it was only his mother who was Cityzen... and that love passed down to him. From age 7, Phil dreamed of blue skies

...and he held that dream close to his heart - a DREAM that only grew when he got the chance to accompany city players unto the pitch.

Making it in the world of football is nary an overnight success as it very often requires an abundance of SKILLS, HARDWORK, VISION, CONSISTENCY and PATIENCE.

Lucky for Phil, he had all of these... he's always kept his eyes on the stars (Man CITY), worked Hard, improved his incredible skills (he's been nicknamed - Stockport's Iniesta) and those fishing trips with his dad taught him about being patient

of course... Phil didn't leave directly from the academy to the first team. As a matter of fact, after City was bought over by *"Arab Money"* their strategy shifted a little bit away from developing young talents to buying top-flight players which saw other youngsters like Jadon Sancho leave the Etihad

But Foden kept pushing on...

image.png

Source: Screenshot from If you think your dreams are impossible, look at Phil Foden's story

Today... you already know the story...

Foden is still too young of course... he's one of the reasons we're excited about post-Ronaldo/Messi football

He is a fuckboy who is making mistakes like how he and Mason Greenwood got kicked out of the England team in Sep 2020

...Fucking Millennials

Anyways... He worked hard... and fulfilled his dream

Going from Spectator of his idol David Sylva to playing alongside him

...and the rest is history stats

but before I End... I must still talk about Chris BrownMartin Braithwaite - Barcelona's own "Golden boy"

When Koeman came to Barca and chased away Suarez and Co... he had the task to beef up their attack...

Did you know that just like Ronaldo, Benzema and a host of others, Barca could have signed Erling Haaland???

Instead?

Now if you're not a football follower, I'm sorry u missed much of the humour in that video

also there's something interesting you may not know about the deal Barca made when buying Coutinho...

I mean... when you put this together with missing on Davies, the Arthur Deal, and others... I assure you that we'll someday be studying Bartomeu and Barca's decisions in Business School soon...

But that's a story of a different day

Anyways... the real reason we're looking at bros B is that during last year's Barca crisis with Messi having decided to leave the team, Chris Brown... I mean Braithwaite went to the Barca's board and asked for the number 10 jersey when Messi leaves

I mean I wonder how this guy can run around the field with such huge cojones right???

of course the response he got was that he was going to leave Barcelona before Messi does

HOWEVER ...and this is important here...

Guess what Shirt Number Chris Brown wears now?

yup!!! **THE MOON!**

image.png

Source: J'aime mon pays le MALI on FB

in case you're wondering why I keep calling him Chris Brown

image.png

The lesson of the day?

>Shoot for the STARS

>if you miss it... you'll hit the MOON

>>Don't limit yourself—aspire to achieve greatness, even if it seems impossible or impractical.

and if you're one of the people who are afraid to try...

as Erin Hanson puts it...

I hope this will inspire us all to **AIM HIGH**

Shoot for the stars looks at the story of Phil Foden and proposes that we must always aim as high as our minds can allow us to in order to be excellent in life.

Creditworthiness

No! I don't want to talk about what you always need urgent 2k for... I want to talk about Credit as a source of (business) financing and in some societies, qualification for any form of financing.

Specifically, I'll like to talk about WHAT we do all the time which affects our ability to receive credit - call it our CREDITWORTHINESS (or as those societies call them - credit score)

sidenote
A credit score is a numerical expression based on a level analysis of a person's credit files, to represent the creditworthiness of an individual. A credit score is primarily based on a credit report, information typically sourced from credit bureaus

Anyways... a while back, a friend of mine asked me about possible ways through which she could raise financing for her Business idea and so I decided to write (on my Whatsapp Channel) about Business Financing. I hope to someday develop that and share it here as well.

In Summary, I explored 3 ways to raise finance...

  1. Investment (for shares/stock/equity)
  2. Lending (loans, Debentures)
  3. Grants/Donations

I also mentioned that there are a ton of reasons why so many savvy businesses prefer Loan Financing over Equity Financing...
coz you know..? "Other People's Money"

to attempt a brief illustration...

Imagine you have 1 Million in your savings account... you take it out invest it in a business and at the end of a good business year, it gives you profits of 100 thousand... cool right?

On the other hand... imagine you had said 1 mil... and instead of taking it out and investing... u borrowed another 1mil from the bank and invested it instead...

at the end of the year... you would have made that same 100k... paid off your interest on that loan of approximately 10% and also made an additional approximately 5% on interests on savings on that 1mil in the bank that u didn't touch.

Basically, you used "Other People's Money" to make money for yourself while your own money just sat there in the bank yielding interest on savings for you.

and here's the beauty...

even if it was a bad business year and you didn't make the 100k profit but lost instead... with loan financing,

  1. you still have your savings in the bank to fall back to for salvation (if need be)...
  2. you'll still earn that little interest on savings...
  3. ...and People like "Orange Man" made their wealth and fame from Bankruptcy hail-Marys like these (story for another day over beer)

...and that doesn't even scratch the surface of the advantages of loan financing

Now Anyone who's done any form of small business in Cameroon - my lovely country (rolls eyes) - will tell you that

  1. Raising startup capital around here is hell
  2. Banks DO NOT lend to small businesses
  3. Friends and Family NEVER have money to invest

Let me try to limit the babble about business... My intention for this write is to focus more on our ability as individuals to raise money from the people around us whenever we find ourselves in a bind and need so desperately to be saved.

What I'm interested in is to attempt to show you the reason why friends and family usually NEVER have money to lend you when you find yourself in a bind, for your personal undertakings and even for your business initiatives... but money shows up when it's time to buy Concours or to fall bush.

this can be summarized into...

is my money really going to come back if I give him/her?

Any person's willingness to lend you money is most often greatly informed by their belief/trust that you'll pay back - your creditworthiness

If I believe that the 100k I'm giving you today will be returned in precisely 1 week as you promised... I won't hesitate to give you. This is how almost everyone thinks... and that belief/trust is informed by their previous dealings with you ...need I say more?

Have you borrowed an urgent 10k in the past and not paid it back?
...in time?
...without any reasons or request for an extension?

Image

Each transaction/interaction you have with people or institutions is what builds your (informal) credit score.... and your credit score is what determines IF and HOW MUCH the people around you can lend to you when you need it.

Now if you're thinking... I'm a strong, independent (wo)man who doesn't like to borrow from people... (how cute) Good for you

 ...for everyone else...

start building (or repairing) your credit score so that you can take advantage of it for seizing future opportunities or solving future challenges

...and the way you'll do this is by scoring great points every time you transact with someone - whether financially or not. Basically, be true to the words that come out of your mouth.

To you it's just a missed deadline, to them it's a dream being killed

To you it's just a small deadline missed... after all, it's just 1 day, right? It won't kill anyone...

To someone else, they've just failed someone they promised getting something to in order to make that person's life a little better. They've sacrificed most of the things that could have made them happy in life just so that they can be able to tell someone "Hey! my team and I can solve this thing you've been struggling with in time enough for you to continue meeting every other one of your goals" To them they've just gone back on that promise... To them, it's not just a deadline that's been missed... it's their word... it's trust... it's support... it's a referal that they've lost. It's a dream that's being gradually killed.

To them... it's serendipity, it's a payday that's being delayed or destroyed, it's stress mounting... because while it's just a small deadline missed to you, it's another domino falling leading to those sleepless nights spent fixing your shit... taking shit from the people to whom promises were made and putting on a smile the whole while just so they don't get to bite someone's head off

To you it's just a small deadline missed.. to them, it's ass-kising (fixing) they're going to have to do... it's time (money) lost... it's a thousand other things that are going to go wrong coz now they have an additional *urgent* thing to fix because to you it was just a small deadline missed.

To them, it's just another reminder that what they're trying to build is only but a dream.

The Kind of Man I want to be

Not too long ago, my friend DC and I were talking - over one too many bottles of wine - about the kind of men we want to be... and most importantly, the kind of men and women we will like to RAISE... A lot of the details of our discussion blur even more as I try to recall our discussions after the first bottle, but the kind of man I want to be is something that has guided me, my decisions, my actions, everything for as long as I remember. My True North if you will.

I want to be a GOOD man. that's it!

Nothing's more important than this to me.

I want to be the kind of man that, whenever people come across me, they can say, I met a good man.

I want to be the type of person who's there for others when they need someone to be there for them. I want to be able to, as I lay my head at the end of the day, smile at the knowledge that I put a smile on someone's face... I said something that made someone realize that they're not going through this life alone...

I don't want to be exceptional (that'll be nice tho... but that's not what drives me). I just want to be good. I don't want to be rich... actually, that'll be really nice... but I want, first to be able to look back and say, because of my little contributions, this aspect of society is better. I just want to be good. I don't want to be first... I just want to be good. I don't want to be the one who changed your life... I just want to be a reason why life is easier for you.

At the end of the day, I just want to spread love, joy, hope, inspiration, love - again.

I just want to be good!

If there's one thing I've learned from my father over all these years... it's that (how do I put this..?) "the true essence of a man can only be defined by how he really feels about himself, his actions, his decisions and most importantly, his contributions towards improving the lives of the people of the people around him..."

I just want to be a good man! NO MATTER WHAT!

Most importantly, I want to raise good people.

Yesterday, the floodgates of heaven opened up and it rained trolls from evil people like my younger brothers, General et al... I received messages that made me almost cry... George declared the day a holiday... my team @Y'G surprised me with cupcakes, memes were shared, pictures, trolls again but most importantly it rained love all over me.

For that, I'm eternally grateful.

Gestures such as people making time out of their busy schedules to make fun of you or to send you a sweet message remind me that I am definitely not going through this life alone.

For you who made the time to make me feel special... THANK YOU
For you who forgot... the PS5 is already out... you know where to get me one.

One thing I can promise is that I'll stay wanting to be a good man... I will never relent in trying to a better version of myself and I call on everyone to join me

Thank you

Domestic Violence

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

...NO! we're not talking about the "flying mashing" that ur sons/brothers/neighbours are probably playing right now in the parlour with packed cushions or mattresses or in a grass field... (Like Van Damme), flying and kicking each other on every other part than (hopefully) the face...

or... did some of us just grow up in much rougher times?

I'm talking about that time when ur bae struck you straight across your face and stood there towering over you... ball fisted... looking at you... daring you to utter another stupid word...

If you've ever had to endure that, I am so sorry... I can't pretend to understand what you went (or are going) through.

s/he didn't know better ...but s/he should have

Domestic violence is violence or other abuse in a domestic setting, such as in marriage or cohabitation

NOW... why do people resort to violence in intimate situations?
Why do people resort to violence in any situation?

That's a great question and (we shouldn't, but) we can list a myriad of reasons which will always make sense to anyone who's hit their partner before but... I think we don't tell people enough that...

NO REASON is enough for you to raise your hand to someone who chose to make you their safe place

Men (in particular) need to stop telling themselves that they get pushed to the wall... because we need to realize that the real reason you strike her is you know... deep inside that you're stronger, more powerful and you can get away with it ...or can you? (cue in my GBV warriors)

While he still believes I'm a disappointment for pursuing my entrepreneurial dream instead of anything else...

...I love and respect my dad more than anyone in the world because amongst many other things... he's always shown us what it means to be a true man (of the house)

amongst many other things... he's never raised his hand (and seldom his voice) at his wife... and I have watched my first love mami Nfor say/do things to this man that... she's still our angel though (the most amazing woman I know... and we would not trade her for anything else in the world

this dude, who not only grew up in harsher conditions than the average poor Cameroonian, has worked in an area quite often associated with violence has always held his temper and has always preached to (albeit beat) us into staying away from violence.

...well except that one time I whooped my friend Norbi's ass

anyways...

NO REASON is enough for you to raise your hand to someone who chose to make you their safe place

There are so many things you can do... You can leave the place (argument) at that moment... you can Sign up to a gym to go punch ur anger away if you must... you can TALK TO SOMEONE... go drink beer with ur friends... you can LEAVE the person who you claim is driving you to the sort of anger which is driving you to violence...

...anything... Just don't beat them

If you're being beaten, I want you to know that it's not LOVE... yes they may love you, but they're not hiting you coz they love you... love doesn't work that way

I know it's easier said than done... but don't be afraid... TRY... you have a lot of options, choices, possibilities after this person.

YOU DESERVE MUCH BETTER from them... or certainly away from them

man kissing the forehead of woman

There are people and organisations that can help you HOFNA Cameroon, CAGEAD, Girls Allowed In, CHRADA, etc

...and these are just off the top of my head

We all Deserve Better
We all SHOULD be Better

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a terrifying event — either experiencing it or witnessing it. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

My friend Eyram Tawia was evil enough to nominate me for a Challenge to raise awareness for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), anxiety and depression that drive people to commit suicide.

Basically, for the next 25 days,

  • Record yourself doing 25 push-ups even if you have to drop to your knees to get 25. Or even do them in clusters of 5.
  • Every day you must nominate a different person.

While I don't think I have the fundamental discipline to do that every day for the next 25days... I've decided to raise awareness by saying a little something about PTSD at least for today to compensate for my inevitable slip-up

Here are some common signs and Symptoms of PTSD

  • Intense feelings of distress when reminded of a tragic event
  • Extreme physical reactions to reminders of trauma such as a nausea, sweating or a pounding heart
  • Flashbacks (feeling like the trauma is happening again)
  • Nightmares of either frightening things or of the event

and more on https://blackbearrehab.com/mental-health/ptsd/signs-and-symptoms-of-ptsd/

Here are some of the ways in which People commonly Describe their PTSD

“I don’t want to think (or talk) about it.”

...not to be confused with when your bae is trying to hide what's happening between them and "my bestie my bestie"

  • “I can’t get it out of my head.”
  • “I feel like I’m losing my mind.”
  • “I keep having panic attacks.”
  • "I don't want to eat" ...because... really??? right?

Many people are unaware that untreated post-traumatic stress disorder can have a devastating effect for both those who have the condition and their loved ones. It not only affects relationships with your family, friends and others, it can trigger serious emotional problems and even cause health problems over time.

It's important to be careful when speaking to someone with PTSD and know the right things to say and WHAT NOT TO SAY.

PTSD affects people of all ages. It can even impact the health of unborn babies when the mother is under constant stress.

Getting effective treatment after PTSD symptoms develop can be critical to reduce symptoms and improve function.

A mental health therapist can help a survivor process the trauma in a healthy, effective way. Therapy enables a person to replace negative thoughts with thoughts that are less distressing.

While Black culture has almost demonized Therapists, Counselling, etc... it is high time we realize that our Mental health should be of prime importance to us all... and these professionals are the most often unappreciated Angels who can help us stay sane.

I personally have had my share of PTSD. I once stumbled on a gruesome case of GBV when I was among the first people to notice a man had brutally murdered his wife and baby with a machete... I was on my way to church when the first person who saw this raised the alarm and about 3 of us went to see what happened.

we immediately jumped in, I drop-kicked the guy in face and we quickly rushed the victim to the hospital... at least that's what I wished we did. But no!!! we stood outside peeking in thru the door and I was pretty much pissing my pants with the way the man was looking at (in my mind) me outside...

I still haven't been able to get his evil eyes... the way he was looking straight into our souls out of my mind (as in I'm going to haunt you all in your dreams)

anyways... it was talking about all of this over the last few years that helped.

as with most things...

  • Be quick to identify if you or someone around you has any cases of PTSD
  • Be quick to seek and talk with a professional
  • Be quick to take action whenever you face a traumatic event
  • Be quick to provide support for those who experience traumatic events (employers and team leaders take note)

Finally... react when I tag you on social media to raise awareness for PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), anxiety and depression that drive people to commit suicide.

On second thought, do, even if I don't tag you

STAY SANE!

Overcoming the feeling of being overwhelmed with tasks

Like me... do you ever feel so overwhelmed with all the work you have to do that you end up getting none of them done?

By all means, allow me share something that I've found works for me... and of course bore you along the way with other stuff you may not want to hear about - just kidding - no I'm not.

For the last couple of days, I've been stuck working (or trying to) from my room because I, like over a million other young people in my part of the country cannot go to work because of the political brouhaha that has ensued since that faithful day in November 2016... (I'm going to resist the urge to write about it.)... and it's been a nightmare trying to get work done.

Normally, I have a huge problem with routine - it bores me - and so while we've been able to achieve most of our objectives around Operational Excellence (I'll blog about it sometime later) at my company Y'G, the result of this progress has been an introduction of routine into my days... Is it important? Is this routine necessary? Is it the secret behind the growth we've been able to enjoy so far...?
IT CERTAINLY IS... and I'll write about it sometime later as well... maybe 😏

Right now, let me quickly get this thought on overcoming the feeling of being overwhelmed with tasks out of my head before I get bored by the idea to blog about it.

If you are like me... then you like new challenges, something different, something new... something you've not done before... a new tribe to conquer, if you will... and anything that doesn't challenge you feels unimportant, not worthy and overwhelming. Or maybe, you're NORMAL and you sometimes just get overwhelmed by the things you need to do or tasks you need to complete in your day.

This is not a pretty feeling, because 8 out of 10 times, you'll end up looking for something fun, like watching a movie... or chit chatting and you'll do it for the rest of the day. I've already brushed on my TV Shows (Empire, Power, Lethal Weapon, Suits and I'm about to finish season 4 of Survivor's remorse) - great shows you should check out too.

So what usually works for me?

I've found that the most effective way of dealing with this overwhelming feeling is to develop better Productivity, Time and Task Management Habits.

1) It all begins with little Notepad

Tust me, a Notepad will save your life... Whip one out and start scratching away. Outline all the tasks you absolutely have to do, rank them in order of what needs to be completed first and establish a To-Do list.

Although highly recommended (I may write about it later), your Notepad must not be a physical piece of paper and pen... It could be digital:- Windows Desktop's Sticky Notes, Google's Keep, Microsoft's oneNote, etc.

2) Break down each Task into Achievable Steps.

Taking a few Minutes to identify a step by step process of achieving each task will give you and your #Productivity a much needed daily boost...

It is not enough to say you have to design a client's website for example... you need to go further to identify step by step what this will mean:- atomic breakdown, homepage layout, default pages, news page, etc...

By breaking down each task, what you're doing is demystifying the "workload" you thought was involved in each of them and you're helping your mind realise that "there's nothing to it"... Just Do It!

3) Check Completed Tasks

After completing each task... check it... or if you're using a physical notepad... scratch it off... scratch it off so roughly that you can hardly make sense of any single letter on that task.... and feel good about yourself for doing it, regardless of what anybody tells you...

Simon Sinek talks about the benefits of actually scratching things off your to-do list in one of his videos. According to him, scratching off a task releases dopamine which is responsible for keeping you motivated.

so... Scratch away

4) Use Digital Assistants and Tools

Finally, we live in a digital world after all... and digital assistants and tools can make your life a living hell just as as much as they can transform you into a productivity genuis.

The day I found Any.do, it felt like falling in love... she was everything I needed... whether I'm using the desktop, web version or mobile app, I can create tasks and subtasks, add notes, files, etc... set notifications, recurring tasks, etc to it. Did I say she earlier??? I meant it...

So... try the above and let me know how it goes for you.

Entrepreneurship of Leadership, Change and Community Development

A while back, I was a panellist on Entrepreneurship at Global Alliance for Youth Leaders (GAYL) Nigeria’s Training of 100 Young leaders in the country. It was an amazing experience. It gave me the opportunity to sit back and ask myself as an entrepreneur such questions as “Why am I even doing what I’m doing?” and “What am I even doing?” So I decided to share a brief look at Entrepreneurship through my eyes.

According to Wikipedia, Entrepreneurship is generally considered as the process of starting a business, typically a start-up company offering an innovative product, process or service (Wikipedia). There’s as many as thousands of definitions for Entrepreneurship on the Internet alone… Every Entrepreneurship class I’ve ever attended has reminded me of the fact that, there are as many definitions as there are people who have an opinion on Entrepreneurship – that’s a lot of definitions – #smh.

Nevertheless, I have come to learn and understand one very simple aspect which has been the inspiration to the work that my team at Y’G and I do every day. To me, "Entrepreneurship is simply identifying challenges and providing 'sustainable' and 'profitable' solutions to these challenges."

By my own school of thought (sometimes weird, I know) True Entrepreneurship is Leadership – Leadership in our Organizations and companies... leadership in our community… leadership in the Beautiful World we are trying to create. Bearing this reminder in mind and closely to your Heart is the key to 21st century Entrepreneurship – The Entrepreneurship of Leadership, Change and Community Development.

Here’s what I believe, “Entrepreneurship is leading change in your circle of influence, it is finding innovative solutions and most importantly, it is taking ACTION to put in place a SYSTEMwhether profitable businesses, Social Ventures or Project Ideas in the Organizations where we work – that solves community challenges.

I highlight The Organizations where we work because the world of today has continuously made it seem like if you don’t start up your own business or social venture, you are not an active or accomplished person!!!! We’ve driven people into starting up ventures not because they have a passion for it, not because they’ve identified a challenge they want to solve, not because they have a brilliant idea… but simply because they want to look accomplished, serious or “COOL”.

I think it is important we remember that we can create change anywhere we find ourselves… that True Entrepreneurship is only achieved when we create sustainable solutions that create POSITIVE Impact!

It doesn't matter how long

A Couple years ago, I was driving (a little recklessly) about 90km/hr rushing to Bambili, a neighboring town to Bamenda where I live, when suddenly another car overtook me and disappeared out of the road in front of me... That guy must have been doing at least 120...

Thinking about it at home later that day, brought back memories of the knowledge of "Top achievers" I'd come across some time back. It goes like this:

A snail takes 37 hours to cover a 400m distance which a Formula1 (F1) car would cover in 9 Seconds.

the IMPORTANT thing to note here is that regardless of the differences in time taken, they both get to their destinations without breaking a sweat.

Whether you are moving in life like a snail or an F1 car, the most important thing is to be steadfast on your path and concentrate on getting to your goal (Whatever it may be).

The snail will take 37hours to get to the goal, which is good, but I honestly don't want to grow old before I make it biggest in life.

Alternatively, the F1 car will take 9 seconds, and within that nine seconds the least mistake it does might cost its life instantly.

It's left for u to decide... Do u want to be a snail or an F1 car???

Harness the Power of Belief and become whoever you want to become in this life... because you can only become as great as you believe you can be.

On another unrelated, unimportant note, if that guy didn't slow down, I seriously pray he got home safe.

One word "Patience"

Becoming Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs is arguably one of the most inspiring entrepreneurial story of the 21st century... from his parents' garage, he started what grew to become one of the biggest worldwide companies of his time. He transformed the mobile telephone market with his line of "i" products and popularised the concepts of "thinking different" and "building products for people".

Steve once said, "build products that are so good and make people's lives so easy that they wonder how they used to survive without them." But that's not all one can learn from this visionary.

Embrace Innovation: Now let's always remember that you can only be a leader in your area of expertise if you innovate or come out with something new. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you should therefore put on your thinking cap and remember to always embrace innovation... The question you should ask yourself is this: "Why should someone leave my competitor and come buy from me?"

Don't rule out a Comeback: Looking at the example of our friend Steve, 10 years after he'd built Apple Inc. he was kicked out of this same Apple Inc. Now he asked himself the question, "How can you get fired from a company you built?" But it does happen Steve... lol!

He didn't relent his effort because he still loved what he did. He went ahead to start 2 different companies - Pixar and NeXT which would later both become very successful and lead to his reentry into Apple.

"The strength of a man is not measured when he's standing, but how well he gets up from a fall. If you love what you do, believe in it and it will all turn out fine."

"Trust in your gut and intuition, for they somehow already know what you want."

Pay Attention to Aesthetics: Steve always had a way to put some beauty in his products, Exhibit A will be the sleek and tender feel of the I-products i.e Iphone, Ipod, Ipad, etc.

Remember to include that aspect of "Feng Shue" in your products. In one of the epic rap battles (Jobs Vs Gates) - trust me you want to google that - one of the actors raps... "♪Steve makes products a man uses to listen to the BeachBoys while a relaxes."

Swim in your lane: Discover your own lane and swim in it... there's no need trying to diversify into many different fields which you might not even understand. Steve discovered his lane was tech and he swam in that lane. What is your own lane??? Are you a hairdresser? are you are Baker? a Chef, engineer, painter? discover your own lane and swim in it.

Do what you love: The only way to great work is to do what you love. If you haven't found it yet, keep searching and don't settle, for as with matters of the heart, you will know when you find it.

Be professional: Don't try to change who you are, but present your true self in the best way possible. Jessie J also says it in her song "Who you are", she says;
"♪ Don't lose who you are, in the blur of the stars...
Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing, Its okay not be okay,
Sometimes its hard, to follow your heart, Tears don't mean you're losing
Everybody's broken, just be true to who you are."

Connect with your market: Always find ways to connect wit your market. This became even more evident as the popularity of Design Driven Entrepreneurship and Design Thinkiing grows...

Three Core Assets of an Organization

In order to survive in the ever-changing, ever-competitive Economic environment, organizations (Companies, NGOs, Parastatals, etc.) need to effectively manage and protect the three core assets of its existence and functioning...

The three Core Assets of an Organization include

1. Personel

Team

The personnel of an organization represents how well that organization can fulfill its mission.

Personnel who are abreast with and comfortable with the objectives and operations of an organization will input tremendous efforts towards success and will assure excellent production. That is of course if they are well managed.

On the other hand, Personnel who have not fully embraced the spirit and nature of the organization's operations will deliver a less-than-desired result.

2. Finance

Finance

It becomes almost impossible for an organization to operate without finances nowadays. Finances guarantee the acquisition of resources and protection from bankruptcy.

3. Reputation

Reputation

The last core asset of an organization is its Reputation without a good reputation, it becomes difficult, if not impossible to keep your current market, or to acquire new markets.

Now that we've reminded ourselves about these core assets... We must take a scorecard of where we stand with respect to these assets, evaluate our positions and work actively on building and improving these assets.

Go ye therefore and GROW

Discovering new perspectives in Leadership Development and Entrepreneurship

June 16th 2017, I was privileged to be 1 of 1000 Africans and 24 Cameroonians who began a journey which will among other things change our perspectives on leadership and development in our communities and our role in the development of our Country, the African Continent, and the world.

Selected under for the Business and Entrepreneurship Track, I was placed at the prestigious IVY League Dartmouth College in Hanover New Hampshire to study “Design Driven Entrepreneurship” alongside 24 other brilliant young leaders from 18 other African Countries including Nigeria, South Africa, Ivory Coast, The Gambia, Zambia, Namibia, Burundi, Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Mali, Liberia, Senegal, Ethiopia, Lesotho, Sudan and Ghana. I spent 6 weeks with these impressive young leaders in Hanover New Hampshire where we were immersed into course work on Design Thinking, Design Driven Entrepreneurship, Developing, Leadership Development, Practical Business Skills, Team Building among others.

Like every other one of them, this for me, was the beginning of an interesting journey learning about people from other African countries, discovering the similarities and differences in the realities we face and also realising the unfortunate truth that it only took us traveling out of Africa to connect with each other and create relationships that will help us create impact in Africa across National borders.

I had the opportunity to live and work with inspiring people like Eyram from Ghana and Adebayo from Nigeria who develop Digital Games around African folklore and culture, Mpho Sekwele who inspires young people in South Africa to overcome life’s challenges by hiking Mountains as a metaphor, Bilaly who is inspiring a new Generation of Leaders and Entrepreneurs and who is going to be President of Mali someday (fingers crossed), @Youku Kasselie who is turning Trash into Treasure in Liberia and other young African leaders working to change the community in different inspiring and innovative ways. You can get inspired by their profiles on the Dartmouth website. Young people through whom I learned, we don’t need to look across the continent in order to collaborate and change Africa.

The true secret behind the success of our fellowship was the amazing team in charge of our program who sacrificed their time, their lives, their comfort to make sure that 25 young Africans made the most of their time during the fellowship. Amy, Tom, Skye, Jake, Julie, Amadu, Don, Al, Vincent, Rich, Prof Robbie, Lorie, Sarah and other amazing people gave their all to nourish us with knowledge, experiences, food of course and networks which we’ll build on.

As if Dartmouth wasn’t experience enough, I got to spend a weekend with the amazing David and Sue Taylor who showered me with love, food and took me around New Hampshire and Vermont to visit small businesses and farms who taught me valuable lessons about growth and sustainability. I learnt how businesses like the Mcnamara Dairy, Edgewater Farms, etc have leveraged their communities and expertise to build sustainable business models, are using customer feedback to innovate and diversify and have stayed successful for so many years while enjoying rapid, controllable growth.

During our 6 weeks at Dartmouth, we visited small and Big Organisations in the New England area, including Timberland, Ben and Jerry’s, Community Access Television and more. I had a particular experience at Timberland where I got the experience of rediscovering the company as a Social Impact Giant and not only a luxury shoemaker as we’ve come to know them in Cameroon. Lesson learnt: People feel a lot better buying our products or services if they know that they’re contributing to solving a Social Need and not just enriching some people… and “The most important thing is to Walk the Talk…” —Jim Pisani Global Brand President

We worked in different groups — sometimes with people who got us on the tip of our nerves — to identify a problem in our communities and utilise the numerous resources placed at our disposal, the knowledge and tricks we learnt in class and the guidance of our Professors, program coordinators and Teaching Assistants to craft and propose a Project which will solve this problem.

We also had the chance to present our group projects to a team of Investors in a pitch competition where my Team whose project was aimed at reducing Recidivism in Cameroon won the prize (wink). To make our experience even more impact filled, we had numerous Cultural exchange programs and Networking events during which we met a lot of amazing people and created friendships and networks which we have been using to improve on the work we do in our communities.

I met an amazing young man Ed Kim who opened my eyes to a lot more about practical Leadership and Team Management in less than 6 weeks than I have learned in over 2 years now running my company. a few things I can cite include:-

“When you’re leading people, telling them to be more creative is just as helpful as throwing water on the ground. You need to stop telling your team to be creative or to work as a team… instead, you need to actually create an environment which will force them to do so.”

“The most important person in a group or team is not necessarily the founder or the leader, but the first person to follow the leader. He is the trendsetter and he’s the one who assures everyone else that it’s okay to join.”

Furthermore, we joined the people of the New Hampshire and Vermont communities through Community Service projects with non-profits once every week to contribute to providing aid to vulnerable people in the New England area. My group worked with “Willing Hands” — a non-profit which works to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to the homeless and families in need in the Hartford area.

Our MWF experience groomed us all to become better entrepreneurs who understand the importance of identifying the needs of the people around us and creating solutions to these needs. We emerged leaders ever more determined to creating positive Change.

These lessons were cemented in our hearts when all 1000 of us regrouped in Washington DC for networking, and Keynote speeches from Tony Elumelu and other high profile speakers.

It is hard to capture what I learnt personally during my MWF experience in a few words as it feels like our mouths were opened and oceans of specifically targeted knowledge were poured into us, each clearly opening our eyes to aspects of our organisations and our communities where we will work to improve as soon as we return.

A few of the Biggest Lessons to note include the following.

  1. Design Driven Entrepreneurship. We must, as entrepreneurs apply Design thinking to the process of finding solutions, we must Identify abundance in Slack resources.
  2. Stepping in others’ Shoes. We must… MUST step away from our side of the communication to get a picture of what our Stakeholders (Customers, beneficiaries, donors, etc) seeing and understanding
  3. Social Good. Small Organisations (like yours) can create Impact and bring change. It takes a Community to Create Impact… We sure as hell cannot Change the world on our own, but we damn well can try.

Now that we’ve returned to our Home countries, all 1000 of us have a determination to dive right into action. Personally, I am in the process of drawing a road map of what I’ll do both at my organisations to expand the impact we’ve been creating and as a Community Leader to share the knowledge I’ve gathered with other young Leaders.

Re-Strategizing: I will be working with my team to apply the concepts of Design Driven Entrepreneurship to the solutions we’re providing to organisations and passing these concepts down to the organisations we consult, partners, those in our networks and as many organisations as we can reach out to.

Workshop: Sometime this month, I’ll be organising a workshop on Design Driven Entrepreneurship during which I plan to share the concepts, tools and resources I learnt about over 6 weeks in Dartmouth. I hope to do this with the assistance and hopefully guest lectures from my professors at Dartmouth.

I’ll be communicating on Social Media and other Digital Platforms details about this workshop.

Mentoring: I plan to mentor as many young people as possible who have a desire to do more in their communities and have a dream to be part of the YALI experience and Network.

I plan to continue working with the US Embassy in Cameroon and the young people in my community to identify projects we can implement in our communities to empower our young people and to boost development.

As long as we keep reaching and fighting and working hard

In 2012, President Obama gave one of the most inspiring victory speeches ever to a crowd of thousands in Chicago and there were 2 main things amongst others that caught me most from his speech.

First "Hope is that stubborness in us, that keeps reminding us that despite the contrary, there's something better waiting for us, as long as we keep reaching and fighting and working hard..."

Secondly, "We are greater than the sum of our individual ambitions."

Enjoy the rest of the amazing speech below.

Full text: Obama's re-election speech
"Tonight, more than 200 years after a former colony won the right to determine its own destiny, the task of perfecting our union moves forward.

It moves forward because of you. It moves forward because you reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over war and depression, the spirit that has lifted this country from the depths of despair to the great heights of hope, the belief that while each of us will pursue our own individual dreams, we are an American family and we rise or fall together as one nation and as one people.

Tonight, in this election, you, the American people, reminded us that while our road has been hard, while our journey has been long, we have picked ourselves up, we have fought our way back, and we know in our hearts that for the United States of America the best is yet to come.

I want to thank every American who participated in this election, whether you voted for the very first time or waited in line for a very long time. By the way, we have to fix that. Whether you pounded the pavement or picked up the phone, whether you held an Obama sign or a Romney sign, you made your voice heard and you made a difference.

I just spoke with Governor Romney and I congratulated him and Paul Ryan on a hard-fought campaign. We may have battled fiercely, but it's only because we love this country deeply and we care so strongly about its future. From George to Lenore to their son Mitt, the Romney family has chosen to give back to America through public service and that is the legacy that we honour and applaud tonight. In the weeks ahead, I also look forward to sitting down with Governor Romney to talk about where we can work together to move this country forward.

I want to thank my friend and partner of the last four years, America's happy warrior, the best vice president anybody could ever hope for, Joe Biden.

And I wouldn't be the man I am today without the woman who agreed to marry me 20 years ago. Let me say this publicly: Michelle, I have never loved you more. I have never been prouder to watch the rest of America fall in love with you too, as our nation's first lady. Sasha and Malia, before our very eyes you're growing up to become two strong, smart beautiful young women, just like your mom. And I'm so proud of you guys. But I will say that for now one dog's probably enough.

To the best campaign team and volunteers in the history of politics. The best. The best ever. Some of you were new this time around, and some of you have been at my side since the very beginning. But all of you are family. No matter what you do or where you go from here, you will carry the memory of the history we made together and you will have the lifelong appreciation of a grateful president. Thank you for believing all the way, through every hill, through every valley. You lifted me up the whole way and I will always be grateful for everything that you've done and all the incredible work that you put in.

I know that political campaigns can sometimes seem small, even silly. And that provides plenty of fodder for the cynics that tell us that politics is nothing more than a contest of egos or the domain of special interests. But if you ever get the chance to talk to folks who turned out at our rallies and crowded along a rope line in a high school gym, or saw folks working late in a campaign office in some tiny county far away from home, you'll discover something else.

You'll hear the determination in the voice of a young field organiser who's working his way through college and wants to make sure every child has that same opportunity. You'll hear the pride in the voice of a volunteer who's going door to door because her brother was finally hired when the local auto plant added another shift. You'll hear the deep patriotism in the voice of a military spouse who's working the phones late at night to make sure that no-one who fights for this country ever has to fight for a job or a roof over their head when they come home.

That's why we do this. That's what politics can be. That's why elections matter. It's not small, it's big. It's important. Democracy in a nation of 300 million can be noisy and messy and complicated. We have our own opinions. Each of us has deeply held beliefs. And when we go through tough times, when we make big decisions as a country, it necessarily stirs passions, stirs up controversy.

That won't change after tonight, and it shouldn't. These arguments we have are a mark of our liberty. We can never forget that as we speak, people in distant nations are risking their lives right now just for a chance to argue about the issues that matter, the chance to cast their ballots like we did today.

But despite all our differences, most of us share certain hopes for America's future. We want our kids to grow up in a country where they have access to the best schools and the best teachers. A country that lives up to its legacy as the global leader in technology and discovery and innovation, with all the good jobs and new businesses that follow.

We want our children to live in an America that isn't burdened by debt, that isn't weakened by inequality, that isn't threatened by the destructive power of a warming planet. We want to pass on a country that's safe and respected and admired around the world, a nation that is defended by the strongest military on earth and the best troops this world has ever known. But also a country that moves with confidence beyond this time of war, to shape a peace that is built on the promise of freedom and dignity for every human being.

We believe in a generous America, in a compassionate America, in a tolerant America, open to the dreams of an immigrant's daughter who studies in our schools and pledges to our flag. To the young boy on the south side of Chicago who sees a life beyond the nearest street corner. To the furniture worker's child in North Carolina who wants to become a doctor or a scientist, an engineer or an entrepreneur, a diplomat or even a president - that's the future we hope for. That's the vision we share. That's where we need to go - forward. That's where we need to go.

Now, we will disagree, sometimes fiercely, about how to get there. As it has for more than two centuries, progress will come in fits and starts. It's not always a straight line. It's not always a smooth path. By itself, the recognition that we have common hopes and dreams won't end all the gridlock or solve all our problems or substitute for the painstaking work of building consensus and making the difficult compromises needed to move this country forward. But that common bond is where we must begin.

Our economy is recovering. A decade of war is ending. A long campaign is now over. And whether I earned your vote or not, I have listened to you, I have learned from you, and you've made me a better president. And with your stories and your struggles, I return to the White House more determined and more inspired than ever about the work there is to do and the future that lies ahead.

Tonight you voted for action, not politics as usual. You elected us to focus on your jobs, not ours. And in the coming weeks and months, I am looking forward to reaching out and working with leaders of both parties to meet the challenges we can only solve together. Reducing our deficit. Reforming our tax code. Fixing our immigration system. Freeing ourselves from foreign oil. We've got more work to do.

But that doesn't mean your work is done. The role of citizen in our democracy does not end with your vote. America's never been about what can be done for us. It's about what can be done by us together through the hard and frustrating, but necessary work of self-government. That's the principle we were founded on.

This country has more wealth than any nation, but that's not what makes us rich. We have the most powerful military in history, but that's not what makes us strong. Our university, our culture are all the envy of the world, but that's not what keeps the world coming to our shores.

What makes America exceptional are the bonds that hold together the most diverse nation on earth. The belief that our destiny is shared; that this country only works when we accept certain obligations to one another and to future generations. The freedom which so many Americans have fought for and died for come with responsibilities as well as rights. And among those are love and charity and duty and patriotism. That's what makes America great.

I am hopeful tonight because I've seen the spirit at work in America. I've seen it in the family business whose owners would rather cut their own pay than lay off their neighbours, and in the workers who would rather cut back their hours than see a friend lose a job. I've seen it in the soldiers who reenlist after losing a limb and in those SEALs who charged up the stairs into darkness and danger because they knew there was a buddy behind them watching their back.

I've seen it on the shores of New Jersey and New York, where leaders from every party and level of government have swept aside their differences to help a community rebuild from the wreckage of a terrible storm. And I saw just the other day, in Mentor, Ohio, where a father told the story of his eight-year-old daughter, whose long battle with leukaemia nearly cost their family everything had it not been for healthcare reform passing just a few months before the insurance company was about to stop paying for her care.

I had an opportunity to not just talk to the father, but meet this incredible daughter of his. And when he spoke to the crowd listening to that father's story, every parent in that room had tears in their eyes, because we knew that little girl could be our own. And I know that every American wants her future to be just as bright. That's who we are. That's the country I'm so proud to lead as your president.

And tonight, despite all the hardship we've been through, despite all the frustrations of Washington, I've never been more hopeful about our future. I have never been more hopeful about America. And I ask you to sustain that hope. I'm not talking about blind optimism, the kind of hope that just ignores the enormity of the tasks ahead or the roadblocks that stand in our path. I'm not talking about the wishful idealism that allows us to just sit on the sidelines or shirk from a fight.

I have always believed that hope is that stubborn thing inside us that insists, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us so long as we have the courage to keep reaching, to keep working, to keep fighting.

America, I believe we can build on the progress we've made and continue to fight for new jobs and new opportunity and new security for the middle class. I believe we can keep the promise of our founders, the idea that if you're willing to work hard, it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from or what you look like or where you love. It doesn't matter whether you're black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich or poor, able, disabled, gay or straight, you can make it here in America if you're willing to try.

I believe we can seize this future together because we are not as divided as our politics suggests. We're not as cynical as the pundits believe. We are greater than the sum of our individual ambitions, and we remain more than a collection of red states and blue states. We are and forever will be the United States of America.

And together with your help and God's grace we will continue our journey forward and remind the world just why it is that we live in the greatest nation on Earth.

Thank you, America. God bless you. God bless these United States."

The 17 Principles of Success

About 3years on… and attending that very simple 2day course – JCI Trainer is still proving to be one of the best decisions I ever made in my life as I still find lots of fun developing my skills, helping everyone I meet find purpose, new discoveries and fulfilment in their lives through Skills Development and training at JCI, at my company Y’ems Group and in other areas of life. Just like I learnt a long time ago… I have grown to become ever more convinced that there truly are essentially 2 things that’ll make you wiser in life… The books you read, and the people you meet.

After last week’s Skills development Session at JCI Bamenda Royal on my friend Mungai Nfi’s “Beating Procrastination”, we decided as an organization to put in practice the concept of taking 21 days to develop a habit.

Did you know that, if you do something repeatedly for 21days it becomes a habit???? – Now You Know!

So we each picked 1 or 2 things we will try to make a habit and I decided to pick 1) Reading and 2) Meditating every morning. In that light, I decided to whip out my signed copy of Fon Amos’ “Napoleon Hill’s 17 Principles of Success” which I’ve been carrying around with me every time in my laptop bag for a little over 1year now and today has been one of the best mornings of my life… Let me share a couple of things I learnt from these principles.

Principle #1 –Define your Purpose
"The Starting Point of all human achievement is the development of a Major PURPOSE"

Principle #2 –Establish a Mastermind Alliance Group
No man can become a permanent success without taking others along. A group of brains coordinated in a spirit of harmony will provide more thought energy than a single brain, just as a group of electric batteries will provide more energy than a single battery.

Principle #3 –Keep Applied Faith
You sure as hell can do it... if you believe you can... It begins from within you! Life has a way of developing strength and wisdom in individuals through temporary defeat and failure. This is the point where you have to have faith in your passion and in your God.

Principle #4 –Go the Extra Mile
Render more and better services than that for which you are paid, and sooner or later you will receive compound interest on compound interest from your investment or as Mr Fon fondly puts it… always deliver more than expected… with passion.

Principle #5 –Assemble an Attractive Personality
When Ana asked Christian in the classic adapted screenplay “50 shades of Grey” the secret to all his success… he said to her… “...Business is about people, and I’ve always been good at people…” I too believe that Courtesy is your most profitable asset… and it is absolutely free. Your personality is your greatest asset or your greatest liability because it embraces everything you control… your mind, body and soul.

Principle #6 –Create Personal Initiative
This is all about using Organized Individual endeavour to motivate you to action and to pursuing your plans. Those who organize their efforts naturally get ahead faster than those who drift without definite aim or purpose.

Principle #7 –Build a Positive Mental Attitude
Staying positive as we’ve been told countless times is paramount in ripping the benefits of the other 16 principles. Keep your mind on the things you want and off the things you don’t want. As the old proverb says… be very careful what you set your heart on, for you will surely achieve it.

Principle #8 –Seek Inspiration and Enthusiasm
My friend Franklin Ngalim always says, to be Inspired is great… to inspire is incredible. I believe when you get inspired about something… you generate enthusiasm for that thing. Enthusiasm is a state of mind, it inspires action and best of all it is the most contagious of all emotions. If you want to get people join you to march into hell, be enthusiastic about your March into hell!

Principle #9 –Exercise Self-Discipline
I especially love what Walter Wayland says in his definition of The True Gentleman – “The True Gentleman is the man whose conduct proceeds from good will and an acute sense of propriety, and whose self-control is equal to all emergencies” – Self-control or self-discipline is taking possession of your own mind. It is managing yourself so that others won’t manage you for you… it is setting and living your and society accepted values. Without self-discipline, you are as dangerous as a car running down the hill without brakes or steering wheel.

Principle #10 –Accurate Thinking
Remember that worrying is not thinking. Thinking has power… is under your control… and must be used wisely. You must be able to organize your thinking. You must be able to carefully analyse information before accepting it, be it political, religious or any other type of thought.
The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance – it is the illusion of knowledge.

Principle #11 –Controlled Attention.
I learnt a valuable lesson 2014 when I decided to stop being that brilliant kid whom you knew you could call to come and solve your every problem… be it finance, marketing, IT, design, business, organization… though sadly enough with 0 emotional skills … and decided to focus my advancement in one area of FOCUS… I have been able to grown tremendously in this particular area and I believe I’m on the right path to my Vision… Remember, do not predict the future… create it.

Principle #12 –Inspire Teamwork
Together, Everyone Achieves Miracles… Teamwork is the willing cooperation and coordination of effort to achieve a common goal. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made was try to build a team to help me drive my vision at Y’ems Group… thanks to people like Mr. Bull, The General, Miss Pearson, etc… we’ve been able to go great lengths in developing our product and building our reputation. It’s just like with  a good football team… like Real Madrid, or Barcelona… they rely more on harmonious coordination of effort than individual skill and it’s like someone said… Individual Effort towards a common goal… that’s what makes a team work… a community work… a society work.

Principle #13 –Learn from Adversity and Defeat
Steve Jobs after being fired 10years later from the company he built (Apple Inc.) took the time to remind himself what it is he loved… you know the rest of the story… he built NeXT and Pixar which eventually led him back to the top of Apple Inc. Every adversity or defeat you meet carries with it a seed of equivalent or greater benefit. I can relate to this statement and I believe it sincerely. While I don’t a fancy story as Steve’s I remember I was able to learn Web programming during a period of my life when I was brought down by illness and was stuck at home for a whole month (hilarious story which you don’t get to hear though, lol!).

Remember, the two people who never get ahead are “Those who do only what they are told to do and those who will not do what they are told to do!”
Whenever you fall… Pick up something…

Principle #14 –Cultivate Creative Vision
Creative vision is a quality of mind belonging only to men and women who follow the habit of going the extra mile. Creative vision is closely related to Faith… note that those who have demonstrated the greatest amount of creative vision are known to have been men with a great capacity for faith.

We must be able to develop creative vision… to believe in a possible unimaginable future and work our way towards that vision. We must be able to trust our gut and intuition for they already seem to know where we’re going.

Principle #15 –Maintain a Sound Health
Having all the money in the world is no use if you can’t get up in the morning to enjoy it… after curing my backaches and headache with a sleep-eat-movie 1week vacation, I came to truly understand that making sound health a habit is one of the requirements for success. You can’t do any work if you’re lying on a sick bed or lying in the cemetery. Since your brain controls your body, know that sound physical health is dependent upon a Positive Mental Attitude. Establish sound, well-balanced health habits in work, play, rest, study and nourishment.

Principle #16 –Budget your Time and Money
You must organize your budget and time to achieve effectiveness in our every endeavours… we all have 24hours in a day… this means time management is not necessarily about managing your time… but managing your activities… I have come to realize that when I draw my daily blue print and actually follow it… I tend to have a very productive day. Every successful person budgets time, income and expenditures within his means.

Principle #17 –Benefit from Cosmic Habit-Force.
I like to think of this as benefiting from the natural order of things… why was I born Nfor, how did I find myself here, why do I love what I do… and how can I make the most of these occurrences? There’s also the habits you create as you move along the journey of life. You are where you are and what you are because of your established habits, thoughts and deeds.

Remember, watch your thoughts, for they become your words… your words, for they become your actions… your actions, for they become your habits… your habits for they become your character… your character for it becomes your destiny.
